Artist Cekouat Elim Leon Peralta shows one of his works.

What is bast fiber? Bast fiber is obtained from the phloem, or inner bark, of dicotyledonous plants (flowering plants with net-veined leaves) and is used for barcloth, bark paper, textiles, cordage, and industrial materials. This virutal program will focus on bast fibers and how they are used.

James Ojascastro has a PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. He is a fiber botanist and paper artist as well, and will be sharing about the fibers used in creating Barkcloth and bark paper.

Cekouat Elim Leon Peralta is an origami creator and biologist from Puebla, Mexico.

This program is co-sponsored by the North American Hand Papermakers.
