Where and When:  

  • Sugar Mountain, NC (~5 hrs drive)
  • January 13-16, 2023.  Includes Two Full-Day Lift Tickets for Saturday, January 14th and Sunday, January 15th.  Lodging is included for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.
  • Comp. Team: Races are on Sunday and Monday (you will get an extra morning session lift ticket for Monday)

Lodging:  

  • We are staying at Super 8 by Wyndham in Boone, NC.  There will be two queen beds and four people in each room.  After registration closes, a spreadsheet will be sent out for everyone to select their rooms.
  • Complimentary Breakfast
  • Heated indoor pool

Costs: 

  • $300 Base Price
    • This includes two full-day lift tickets (9am-4:30pm on Saturday and Sunday).
    • There is also an option to add on night skiing on Saturday (6pm-10pm) for an extra $36.
    • This includes lodging at Super 8 by Wyndham on the nights 1/13 through 1/15.  Checkout is at 10am on Monday, 1/16.
    • There are also options to pay for just lodging ($150) or just tickets ($160).

Payment Information:  

  • Full payment to Mark Glinberg (Venmo: @Mark-Glinberg) is needed ASAP to finish registration (you will NOT have a secured spot until this is paid.)
    • Send Mark the full cost of the package you want (i.e. $300 for lodging and ticket, or $336 for lodging, ticket, and Saturday night ticket) and include your full name, gatech email, and “Sugar  1-13-23” in the payment description.
    • The last 4 digits of his phone number are 9968 (for Venmo verification).
    • If given options, please do NOT consider this transaction to be goods/services.  
  • Registration deadline is December 28th 6:00 PM.
  • You can cancel for a full refund up until the registration deadline (December 28th 6:00 PM).  After this deadline, you are locked in (no refund).
  • Dues-paying members can expect to receive reimbursements (whatever money we have leftover) in the weeks post-trip.
  • To complete registration, you must complete this form and pay Mark in full.

Transportation:

  • Carpooling will be organized after registration closes.
  • Travel times will be managed by each group.
  • For Drivers: We will refund up to $100 in gas reimbursements for cars with 4+ people in them.  Scan and keep your gas receipts; we will send out a form for this information to be uploaded to.

Registration Information:

  • Anyone is welcome to register for this trip, including alumni, friends, and non-GT students!
  • Keep in mind that this trip does have limited space.
  • In the event that we have more people sign up than spots available, overflow will be put on a waitlist, and the priority is as follows:

Rentals/Extras:

  • Until further notice, you are responsible for acquiring your own rentals.  Here’s some places to start looking at:
    • Highland House Ski Rentals
      • Should reserve in advance
      • Can pick up between 7-11pm night before if requested
      • Can give equipment back that night or up to 10am next day
      • $48 for ski rentals (skis, boots, and poles)
      • $78 for snowboard (board and boots)
      • +$20 for bibs/snowpants 
      • +$20 for coats (can probably get away with just bringing a raincoat and sweatshirt)
      • +$16 for helmet
    • Sugar Mountain Resort
      • $66 for ski set (skis, boots, poles)

  • +$31 for a 1.5-hour group lesson (ski or snowboard)

Communication:

  • The primary form of communication will happen over Slack in #sugar-mlk-2023.  
  • Invitations will be sent to all emails listed periodically during registration.  
  • Please text Hali at +1(706)429-8141 after registration closes if you did not receive an invite/are not in the Slack.
  • 1-2 emails will also be sent out with overarching trip information.

Important:

  • Skiing is a dangerous sport. We strongly advise everyone to wear helmets regardless of skill level. Follow these rules while you’re out there:
    • Always stay in control.
    • People ahead of you always have the right of way.
    • Do not ski with people above your level; they will most likely take you to terrain you are not ready for.
    • If an emergency occurs, contact one of our Safety Officers, Ski Patrol, and/or 911 depending on the severity of the emergency.
